Pretend Friend is an Americana band born on the endless horizon of the plains. With roots in Wichita, Kansas, Pretend Friend's high-energy performances meld elements of folk, bluegrass, classic rock, traditional, and jam band music. Tradition is honored; convention is cast aside. PF has been inspired by consistent musical evolution since 2015.
With compelling songwriting at its core, Pretend Friend weaves together rich melodies with evocative lyrics of love, passion, nostalgia, controversy, and spirituality. Pretend Friend pursues a poetic, unbridled approach to musical expression.
"Will we live forever or die together? Will I remember all I love?"
"I am not all I once was, reinvention has a cost"
"I'm dying for a dollar and I can't afford to change"
"I can't wait to see you, little darling. Tomorrow can't come soon enough."
"Grooving all night long, dancing up and down you. You are a song."
Band members:
Grant Boesen on songwriting, lead vocals, and guitar since 2015
Evan Ogborn on mandolin and vocals since 2017
Zach Shryock on percussion since 2024.
"Pretend Friend respects tradition and its musical heritage while consistently breaking new ground. The combination of expert writing and outstanding musicianship places the band in rarified company—one of those bands that wows fellow musicians with its acumen and leaves everyone tapping their toes and singing along to songs that seem to have always been."
